Contemporary art has returned to the banks of the Bystrzyca River as Lublin's Riverside Art Festival transforms public spaces into an open-air gallery
The Riverside Art Festival is once again inviting residents and visitors to experience contemporary art beyond the walls of traditional galleries. Now in its second edition, the festival has transformed the banks of the Bystrzyca River into an outdoor exhibition, where artworks interact with nature, architecture and the everyday life of the city.
Running until 16 August 2026, the festival presents a series of site-specific installations, objects and a new mural created especially for the riverside landscape near Firlejowska and Przyjaźni streets. Set against panoramic views of Lublin's Old Town, the exhibition encourages visitors to explore one of the city's most scenic walking routes while discovering contemporary artistic interventions along the way.
Art in Conversation with the Landscape
Rather than placing artworks inside a conventional gallery, the festival uses the natural surroundings of the Bystrzyca as part of the exhibition itself.
This year's programme brings together a variety of contemporary artistic approaches, ranging from subtle, minimalist interventions to large-scale experimental works that respond directly to the surrounding landscape. The river, nearby greenery and urban skyline all become part of the experience, encouraging visitors to see familiar places from a different perspective.
The festival features work by three female artists, three male artists and one artistic collective, reflecting a broad range of creative voices and artistic practices.
A Different Way to Experience Contemporary Art
The Riverside Art Festival offers a more informal way to engage with contemporary art.
Visitors are encouraged to explore the exhibition at their own pace, whether as part of a riverside walk, a cycle ride or a visit to this increasingly popular part of Lublin. Without the structure of a museum or gallery, the artworks become part of the city's everyday environment, inviting spontaneous encounters and new interpretations.
As the festival continues throughout the summer, the Workshops of Culture in Lublin will also introduce participating artists and additional programme details through their official channels.
